Yes. Get rid of him.
Anyone who thinks Abrams is all about 'lens flares' needs to watch a Michael Bay film. His lens flares have lens flares.
And as far as TMNT goes.....are there seriously no other ideas out there ? No undeveloped new concepts submitted by a fresh screenwriters...at all ? Really ? Nothing ?
Hollywood has become a sad, toothless town for anything resembling new ideas.
And to change the background mythology of a series to the degree being done here, it seriously needs to be called something else. For old TMNT fans, this is almost a case of consumer fraud. Can you imagine wit the new Star Wars films...hey, lets set the story in Asgard so they can fight Thor ! Makes about as much sense. Destination SkillQueue wrote:What does it matter? Stupid origin story where pet turtles become human/turtle hybrid crime fighters vs a stupid origin story involving aliens. The origin story wasn't the reason anyone cared about the show, so I don't see what the big deal about changing it is. If anything he is right in that, getting them to be "tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable" is central to making it work. Trying to re-trace every little story detail about the originals is not.
Because the change is arbitrary and unnecessary. Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Seriously. And why TMNT in the first place. My age group is not interested hardly at all. The current generational age group has practically no idea what it is.
It just bespeaks of the creative gulf in Hollywood that is of their own making. Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Yeah. Homogenization and gentrification are killing our true culture tbh.
Even San Francisco does not have a half of the personality, creativity, diversity, or charm that it had even 10 years ago. It's becoming just like 'everywhere else'.
I attribute the root cause to the degradation of our educational system over the past 30 years, but that's an entirely different thread. Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Yeah. It's only by seemingly sheer accident that the rare bird can escape like "The Tree of Life". Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Micheal Dietrich wrote:These reboots aren't being made for the generation that was, it is being made to expand its profits on a new customer. They'll throw you a one or 2 but overall this is not for you, its for expanded revenue on a long time product.
Plus they are terrified due to their own greed of losing even one dime on an untested project.
If he wants to remake TMNT, that's fine. But to change the origin story......one may as well make up something new around that entirely instead of announcing that you are releasing a sham of a production...while even being called out in the geek-o-verse about its badness.
That some gumption to still march forward at that point, I'll give him that much.
EDIT: changed 'gumption' from an apparent Hispanic pejorative. Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

Because the geek-o-verse can be counted upon to 1) *****, but go see the movie anyway, and 2) fail to organize effectively. Hollywood has demonstrated those two points repeatedly, so at this point fanboi-dom gets even less respect in Hollywood then is does on the interwebs.
But they sure are eager to bombard us at Comic Con for our attention! Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

I attribute the root cause to the degradation of our educational system over the past 30 years, but that's an entirely different thread. I blame the fact that corporations are running the government caldari style. Because of this they can get away with pretty much anything, including all the stuff they do to crush the far superior competition..
And this catering to massive corporations causes the homogenization and gentrification. Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

I don't believe that is the case being made here. We are complaining for the most part of the endless remakes and reboots and outright copying of ideas.
James Cameron's blockbusters certainly do not suck.
